Swedish singer YAYA recently offered her latest track, “BOY,” a buoyant electronic pop earworm. Entirely produced, and written by YAYA, who’s released a slew of one-off singles this year, the track is well composed around the pitchy, catchy “boy” refrain. Dealing with such a catchy vocal sample can make a producer overreliant, but YAYA delivers with finesse.
Over a thumping 808 and head-nodding synth groove, YAYA sings about a boy who makes her “leave my heart ensured when you love me the way I should.” Her soft vocals and melodic flourishes give the track a tinge of R&B feel, though the song is made for the dance floor with it’s seductive bassline and upbeat drum programming.
