Singer, songwriter, Gossip frontwoman, and fashion icon Beth Ditto has announced the launch of her new clothing line with longtime friend Jean Paul Gaultier this coming February, 2016. The yet-to-be-named (in public at least) clothing line was announced on Ditto’s website, saying it will be inspired by “her love of vintage, expect silks, custom prints, embroidery and Beth’s first-hand understanding of fit.”
To celebrate the announcement the duo has released a limited edition t-shirt featuring Gaultier’s iconic bullet bra corset, most-famously worn by Madonna. The shirt will be the first of the designer’s to be available in US size 30 for women, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Girls Rock Camp Foundation.
“This line is by us, for us, period,” Ditto posted on her website. “It’s my lifelong dream to get to design real clothes for big people, clothes that are comfortable and cool!”
“Big girls are beautiful and Beth is super beautiful!” added Gaultier. “Long live the beauty with shapes, boobs and bottoms. This is a new concept, a loose fit corset. And Beth fits it perfectly.”
“This of course, isn’t Ditto’s first foray into fashion, nor is it even her first attempt at her own line, but with her friend and pioneering designer by her side, we’re excited to see what the partnership produces.
“Jean Paul is the most generous, positive person, he truly loves women of all sizes and ages and knows how to make everyone feel gorgeous,” said Ditto.
