Broken Water Disbands

Olympia, WA act Broken Water announced via Facebook that they are disbanding. Tonight’s appearance at Reed College in Portland, with Naomi Punk and CC Dust, marks their last live performance.

Broken Water formed in the late-2000s. The band name references a free well-water spout in the center of Olympia, said to possess magical qualities for anyone who drinks from it. Consistently articulate and thoughtful regarding the political dynamics of operating a group, Broken Water released four full-lengths on labels such as Night People and Hardly Art since 2010. With saturated guitars, lilting vocals, propulsive yet oblique song-structures, the group’s 2015 full-length, Wrought, was one of the most confident and realized statements in Broken Water’s catalog.

Broken Water gave no indication of why they’re disbanding. The Facebook post has since been deleted, but the band confirmed its accuracy to Impose. Originally concluding the online note with a Sound of Music reference, they wrote, “So long, farewell auf wiedersehen goodbye.”
