After a successful Kickstarter campaign two years ago, Zack Taylor and Steve Smoot, cassette adorers both, were able to fully fund a documentary that covers the resurgence of their beloved tape. The documentary, called Cassette, and which you can see a trailer for below, highlights the path tapes have taken, from their initial introduction in the 70s to their push-out by the mighty CD, and their return and height in our times. The filmmakers were able to reach out to a host of musicians who are also tape cultists, like Henry Rollins and Daniel Johnston, and got a chance to do some investigating into the last American tape company standing, National Audio Company. It looks like this is a well researched history of a format we've always loved.
That being said, you should know that the cassette resurgence has been alive and well at Impose—read our tape column, Head Cleaner, here, and browse our wide cassette selection in our store here. Long live rectangular plastic.
