It’s hard to believe that in a few months we will reach the 10-year anniversary of the passing of J Dilla. Luckily for listeners, his incredible work ethic—one that some speculate led him to ignore serious health issues—produced an insane amount of material that the world is only now getting to hear. And as we approach the one decade since his untimely death, we are likely to be inundated with much of that unreleased material. First up: the three-disc, 40-song Dillatronic set.
Promising to include a curated selection of both released and unreleased work, the new Dilla set is said to have a more electronic vibe. The word contemporary is thrown around the press release, but Dilla fans know a mere 10 years isn’t enough to catch up to his forward thinking music. The set is available on a Moog Voyager-shaped USB or glow-in-the-dark vinyl as well as CD.
Earlier this week on his KPFK radio show, “Adventures In Stereo”, J Rocc played some cuts off of Dillatronic, including a few of the unreleased tracks. You can stream “Adventures In Stereo” in full (skip to 21:05 for the Dilla tracks), and “Dillatronic #7″ from the compilation below.
Dillatronic will be released on October 30 via Vintage Vibez Music.
