(McCarren Pool before its tune up and paint job)
Jelly NYC may be putting on its second and final summer of free shows at the giant concrete crater known as Williamsburg's McCarren Pool, but they're going out in a flame of indie glory. No ?uestlove DJ sets, not even a Spank Rock. Nope. Read it and stand there pouting with your arms crossed (to some of the best rock acts touring right now). (Plus, go see Man Man and dance like a fool). Ponderosa Stomp is another glorious exception, a New Orleans soul festival brought up north for one hot Sunday in July that features greats like Willy Tee and Roy Head and backing “house bands” like Yo La Tengo. The line up this year last longer than last year, when Gang Gang Dance and Spank Rock both had shows in September. And July 22nd is still up in the air. Maybe MIA will make another appearance if she gets her visa issue sorted out
