Superchunk announced the release of Majesty Shredding, which is engineered and produced by Scott Solter. The lead single “Digging For Something” features back-up vocals by John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats.

Stereogum is streaming “Digging For Something” and its shaping up to be another power-poppy treat from the Superchunk camp. The single will be a limited edition multi-colored 7″ with a b-side non-album cut called “February Punk”. The cover art was done by Harrison Haynes of Les Savy Fav.

As for the full length Majesty Shredding, Solter is known for coaxing exceptional performances from bands in the studio. Given that Mac MaCaughan's ambition was to write demos that captured spirit of the band's live shows, the two creators seem to be operating with likewise goals, which should make for an exceptional Superchunk record. Hopefully, we can hear the thump of MaCaughan's boots on the studio floors buried within the songs.

Pre-oder the “Digging For Something” b/w “February Punk” at the Merge store. Majesty Shredding is out September 14 on Merge.
