As a sign of the changing times, a new Guinness record was set last week, and instead of waiting to read the yearly compendium to find out what it was, you can hear the results from the comfort of your own home. Streaming now on Soundcloud is the world's longest echo, which peaks at 1 minute and 12 seconds, and was recorded in an oil storage complex at Ichindown in Scotland. Trevor Cox, a professor of acoustic engineering at Salford University, fired a pistol in the complex and beat the previous record for longest echo by a full minute.
