StarBenders, "Goth in the Summer"

Post Author: Meredith Schneider
Recently, glam/synth rock collective StarBenders released a new album titled Heavy Petting. (We’re pretty obsessed with the name too.) As a result, they’ve released live videos for “Downtown” and “U Like Me Now”, and have just introduced new track “Far From Heaven” unto the world. Check out that dark, wild new track below, let us know what you think, and then roll down to the “Goth in the Summer” playlist they’ve curated exclusively for Impose!

You can find the “Goth in the Summer” playlist right here, via Spotify.

The Rolling Stones- Paint it Black
“I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes. I have to turn my head until my darkness goes.” This song speaks for itself. It’s hard to be dark and brooding when surrounded by pastel and pimento cheese sandwiches. I myself have impulsively hissed at people before. The struggle is real.

Rod Stewart- Do Ya Think I’m sexy

I don’t care who you are or what you’re into, this is easily the greatest summer song of all time. Even when you’re sweating through your polyester blouse and velvet jacket you can’t help but feel like a freaky disco vampire who just wants to be loved.

The Kinks- All Day and All of the Night

This song elicits sleaze. One of the good things about summer is the clearance to be a scoundrel. Listen to this track to unlock your wild heart. The Replacements- Portland
Summer = Road trips. I love driving to this song. Plus, The Replacements are incredible!

Nancy & Lee- Summer Wine

I heard a rumor that when this song was being recorded,  Lee Hazlewood told Nancy Sinatra to “sing one for the truck drivers”. Which is so hilarious to me, but I digress. Summer wine is about doing it. It’s important to love during the summer, so go out and lick some sweat.
Siouxsie & The Banshees- Happy House
I like getting ready to go out to this song. It makes me feel powerful.

The Animals- Don’t Let Me be Misunderstood

Hey, don’t misunderstand us because we keep saying no every time you ask us to come to the pool. We’ll catch you at sundown.

The Beach Boys- Good Vibrations

This is actually one of the gothier songs to me. They use a theremin as the main instrument during the chorus, case and point. The melody is ridiculous and the track as a whole is a masterpiece.

Iggy Pop- Sunday

Iggy Pop KILLED me with ‘Post Pop Depression’. I thought it was the best record of the last 15 years. This track makes my skin feel hot. Fuck the sun, I have Iggy.

INXS- Never Tear Us Apart

Ah, the end is upon us. But don’t fret, we won’t be torn apart.
