Exactly why I said Jason Quever is a pop genius a few weeks back was on full display as his band Papercuts made their way to Brooklyn as part of their ongoing tour with Vetiver.
Quever and co. put on a show that seemed almost like the lo-fi, ramshackle cousin of Beach House — a sound that permeated through the Bell House concert hall on this lazy spring night. And while Quever’s delicate croon sounds hardly anything like Bill Callahan’s low and deadpan delivery, I hear a progression in his work that calls the Artist Formerly Known as Smog to mind.
