Rising songwriter shares effervescent, moving new visual to launch EP
Drawing on influences from across the musical spectrum as well as his Peruvian heritage, rising songwriter Attawalpa has just shared his affecting and appropriately named new EP Spells.
His unique and nuanced approach to songwriting has not gone unnoticed. Early support has come from the likes of Notion, Earmilk, Dazed and BBC Introducing while Steve Lamacq supported Borrowed Time across his show on BBC 6Music. An artist that’s inspired by any number of genres, he quotes Nirvana, Velvet Underground, Prince, Bobby Zimmerman, Lee Hazlewood, Neil Young, Wu-Tang Clan, Air and Big Thief among his principle inspirations. Alongside the new EP, he’s shared a visual for the closing track “Go To The Moon.”
“Self-preservation, performing, connection and healing. It’s like an obsessive puzzle, a means to heal which gets released on stage,” he shared. “It keeps me sane and insane…I strive to make music I will want to listen to in the next life. I feel music has the power to help one travel through time and realms. Music is magic.”
