Hausu, “Kool Off”

Hausu dropped their debut record, Total, yesterday through Hardly Art, and with it comes a contribution of the visual kind for their post-punk screecher "Kool Off". The song itself has the signature Hausu sound, which intends to mean that there is an actually an absence of definition. As the band describes their recent record, "We were less interested in 'resembling' our favorite bands and songs than in searching for the small, indescribable things within that made them special," and with a path that meanders from discordant guitar upstrokes to crisply hit hi-hats and a little touch of Cobain neurosis, there really is a little something for everyone. The video to match is unsettling and off-kilter, almost like Pee Wee's Playhouse if it had the occasion to get even weirder.

Total can be picked up through Hardly Art now, and the Portland foursome can be caught at the dates below.
