My Brothers And I, “Na Na Na (CATHODE remix)”

Post Author: Justin Hernandez

We’ve got the premiere of the video for My Brothers And I’s “Na Na Na (CATHODE remix)” here exclusively on Impose to kick off your week right. Comprised of actual brothers David, Erik, and Scott Wurgler (on lead vocals, bass and vox, and drums respectively) as well as actual childhood friends Jordan Roach on guitar and Johnny Iliyn on keys and vox, My Brothers And I are a pop R&B act out of Portland who have been rapidly gaining attention off the strength of their album Don’t Dream Alone released last September on Expunged Records. Now, to celebrate the one year anniversary of that album, Expunged is releasing a remix EP of Don’t Dream Alone with remixes by CATHODE.

The video for “Na Na Na (CATHODE remix)” is a performance at its most basic: essentially one man moving to the rhythm in front of a screen. Yet simply add in some vapor and digital effects and the video becomes an engaging visual trip through galaxies and starlight. And the fact that the song is a luxuriously synthy delight doesn’t hurt either.

At times, the video for the CATHODE remix of “Na Na Na” seems like hype footage culled from some jumbotron presentation playing behind the band at some huge stadium gig with its minimal yet iconic imagery. This is something likely not far off for a band that has had their music recently featured on Pretty Little Liars and VH1’s Family Therapy while touring with St. Lucia, Misterwives, and others. If “Na Na Na (CATHODE remix)” is any indication of the rest of CATHODE’s reimagining of Don’t Dream Alone, My Brothers And I’s fanbase will only grow larger. Just as the video adds new layers to the song, so too does the song’s remix expand upon and broaden the original creation into something that will no doubt appeal to new and existing fans of My Brothers And I alike.

“This music video is different than anything we’ve ever done before,” admits Wurgler. “We had kicked some ideas around with light projection, it fit the vibes of the remix. So we got in touch with local artist Brett Clouser, he created some amazing digital artwork that blew us away. After that, David danced his heart out and the result is visually stunning.”

The remix album of Don’t Dream Alone is set for a September 23rd release on Expunged Records. You can follow My Brothers And I on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, SoundCloud, and their website at www.mybrothersandiband.com.
