Cincinnati singer/songwriter Sam Tieger has been garnering attention for her mellifluous vocals as of late, and we can’t argue with that. Her talent seems to have the ability to carry her music far and wide. We’ve got the exclusive premiere of her lyric video for the single “What Would You Do”, as well as a brief interview with the up-and-comer below.
What was the first album or song you remember ever hearing, and who introduced it to you?
The first album I remember hearing is “A Hard Day’s Night” by the Beatles. My parents have Beatles books, photos, and CDs all over the house so I grew up with their music.
When did you decide music was your calling? Was there an “aha” moment?
I think it was my entire high school music experience – connecting with the lyrics of my favorite artists, meeting my favorite artists at meet and greets after their shows, writing my own lyrics, hearing my melodies come to life in the studio for the first time, and just idolizing these singer-songwriters who were able to create successful careers with their music.
Your song “What Would You Say” is incredibly beautiful. What inspired it, specifically? (Is it all a true story?)
One of my best friends texted me a pretty detailed message about a guy in her office that she liked. I thought her description and the whole concept of office romance was so interesting that I wrote this song about it that same day.
The lyric video is really fun for the song, very relatable. What was the process of getting it made like?
I used an online journal to make this video because I wanted to make people feel like they were watching me create the song and write the lyrics. I wanted it to feel personal.
What do you find that you draw inspiration from on a regular basis?
My friendships and love life, my friends’ love lives, and my favorite TV characters’ love lives. 🙂
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
Andy Grammer – his music is so fun and creative.
What are you looking forward to in 2017?
I’m really looking forward to playing in some new cities – look for show dates on my website and Facebook page!
