Thee Oh Sees new video for the Putrifiers II single, “Lupine Dominus” chronicles a trip of deviance, binging high art to low society. Director John Strong takes the viewer from a bland middle-of-nowhere parking lot through a rough, seedy strip joint in smooth tracking shots that are reminiscent of PTA’s Boogie Nights opening scene sans glam and joy. Thee Oh See’s definitely had a bit of cash to throw down for this one. The camera seamlessly sweeps through the hallways of the club, showing the club’s back workings, hallways, and security, all accompanying Thee Oh Sees’ anxious rock shredder with subtlety, misdirection and general filthiness. The shots are so clearly well planned out and even in their seemingly non-narrative moments, it feels like the video is capturing a story in its entirety, especially in light of the music its resolution which I’ll hold off divulging for cinematic enjoyment. Its sexy, smart, and ultimately, unexpected… and needless to say probably (definitely) NSFW.
Thee Oh Sees’ Putrifiers II is available from In the Red Records.
