Upset, “Away”

Upset

The new video from LA’s pop-punk supergroup Upset is a slice of pure sweetness, home-movie tour footage that looks so much like the kind of live punk performances/road diaries I traded on VHS tape with other bratty teens in the early to mid ’90s that I had to blink a couple of times. Watching the band hang with one another is charming, reminding me of the best things about touring, which can be alternately boring and stressful and can put a lot of pressure on intra-band relationships, but can also be the best road trip with your friends you’ve ever had, where you get to do the thing that keeps you going night after night. Check out “Away”, and get a glimpse into their world—hardly traditionally glamorous, but also filled with an enormous amount of love (and cute dogs). The footage was shot on Upset’s recent tour with Colleen Green and features cameos from Green herself as well as members of Chastity Belt and Tacocat.

Upset’s current record ’76, on which “Away” appears, is available on cassette or 10-inch vinyl via Lauren Records now. You may want to check out our recent interview with Ali Koehler of Upset here.
