Nurse with Wound caused a mass pilgrimage to the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco when they played there in 2006 for their first official performance in 22 years. Though it began as a band in 1978, Nurse with Wound has remained clouded with the cult of obscurity ever since Steven Stapleton took control of the moniker as his singular outlet, releasing over 30 titles since 1980. Though his influences often ran bereft of the sonic trends of his time, his taste for found sound, tape-looping, and ambience have brought him collaborations with Stereolab and Jim O'Rourke, as well as members of Organum and Current 93.

His latest album is apparently a trip into lounge, inevitably filtered through the obscuring crystal of ambient, dark textures that have become a Nurse with Wound signature. “Ketamineaphonia” is a track from the upcoming Huffin' Rag Blues, out June 24 on United Dairies/Jnana.
