E4E1: Ghosthunters party / label launch

Aa, Dinowalrus, Say No! To Architecture, EFFING, Liturgy, Orphans, Magnet City Kids t Death By Audio, 49 South 2nd St btwn Kent and Wythe, Williamsburg. All Ages. 8pm doors.

Ghost Hunters Club Co-Op started out in Plainview, Long Island as a way for a bunch of disparate, largely noise-ish projects in the tri-states and beyond to pool limited resources, show-throwing potential, and release opportunities. Limited ability to just get the word out. Lately the word has been getting out, apparently, as they've put together bills at the Cake Shop and now teamed up with E4E1 for this one at DBA. Full disclosure: Impose editor Jeremy Krinsley is involved now too. With increasingly focused and catchy tri-drummer rhythmic overloaders Aa, psych-wave weirdos Dinowalrus, new generation black metal outfit Liturgy, and a bunch of GHCC noise acts.

Art-rock at the Charleston

Extra Life, Larkin Grimm, Mirror Mirror, Stern at 174 Bedford Ave btwn N. 7th and N. 8th, Williamsburg. 21+. 9pm, $7.

All over the place is what this one is. In a good way. Headlining, you've got perenial STM favorites Extra Life, who forge tightly syncopated instrumentation and medieval vocal technique into art-rock of rare intensity and elegance. For the uninitiated, this is the post-Zs project of guitarist Charlie Looker, always further honing his songwriting. I don't have any actual information on what Mirror Mirror are all about, but after hearing their drifting psych rock off and on since spring, I'd have to say they spend quite a bit of time conducting ceremonies in the forest (prefereably of the primeavil variety), white-robed and swaying. Very 60s, but more interesting than I'm making them sound. I bet it's a good live show. Larkin Grimm takes folk stirrings in a similar direction. And Stern has one of those names you can't google, so don't look at me on that one. Altogether, they are… a solid bill. And it's the Charleston, so grab some free pizza while you're there.

If you missed her Thursday, it's Unicornicopia show number two, this one accompanied by Jennie Bringaker, plus a set from Jennie+Natalie. It's at NYU, presumably at the Kimmel Center on Washington Square South where they typically hold their shows.
