Not content doing rhythm section time for the sunny, psych stoner troupe Simian, James Ford and Jas Shaw took the spirit behind the DJ sets they first established touring for that early 00s band and the name too for Simian Mobile Disco, a dance-centric outing dedicated to the proposition that digitalizing dance music sucks. Analog 'til death, or until new splinter groups do them part, Simian Mobile Disco's Attack Decay Sustain Release, out September 18th on Interscope, was made on drum machines and analog synths and features 16 indie dance party hits.
The pair have already remixed The Go! Team, Air, and Klaxons, while UK indie is apparently hot for Ford, who has produced Arctic Monkeys
(Favourite Worst Nightmare), Klaxons (Myths of the Near Future) and
Mystery Jets (Zootime).
And since Klaxons started mumbling that nu wave was a big joke (gasps all around there), no one's been quite as eager to jump on the NME-chauferred band wagon. Still, Simian Mobile Disco was tossed on the heap alongside similarly electro-charged acts, and for better or worse their legacy will be in part determined by the immediate trendiness of their work.
