Record Store Day is fast approaching, which means you should be eagerly planning what releases you need to pick up. We know for damned sure that we will not be missing the Double Dagger release of 333, their last effort as the Baltimore post-hardcore trio, who have since gone their own ways in new formations as Peals, Roomrunner, and Pure Junk. The band has shared the closing track from the 6-song record called “Heretic's Hymn” and if there's anything in a lyric, which sometimes we wonder if there is, it's to be found in this epic chant-along-then-slow-it-down 7-and-a-half minute mastery. Lead singer Nolen Strals pleads to us in a pitch reminiscent of Dismemberment Plan's Travis Morrison, “I hope you won't forget / you're only free making art outside.” It's a beautiful thing, this song is. The LP will be released in conjunction with a DVD documentary about the band called If You Shout Loud Enough, all through Thrill Jockey.
Celebrate all that DD had to offer by listening to this song over and over again.
