Sunset Rubdown new LP in October

Post Author:

Sunset Rubdown has always been Spencer Krug's “solo project” where his many other excursions have been collaborations and, with Wolf Parade, his “band”. He explained to Prefix a year ago that the distinctions between Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown “in the end… are just these pretentious little differences, because it's all just rock music, right? But the differences are big enough for me that it justifies having two bands.” Well, four or five at this point, depending how you count em.

Having returned to Frog Eyes, collaborated with Dan Bejar (Destroyer, New Pornographers) and Carey Mercer (Frog Eyes) in the guise of Swan Lake and added keyboard work to Island's Return to the Sea, he's officially worked under more monikers than Diddy. While he's been Spencer Krug in every group, adding his signature warble and melancholic melodies to everything he touches, Sunset Rubdown has perhaps remained his most guarded project, one he's been happy to let grow organically, without the hyper-driven push of a big indie or, apparently, a Myspace page (the band's current page having been designed by “some random weirdoes[sp]”, goes the Prefix interview). Of course, the “solo” project has slowly grown into a full on band, featuring Montreal locals Michael Doerksen, Camilla Wynne Ingr (formerly of PONY UP!), and Jordan Robson-Cramer.

The new album, Random Spirit Lover, will be released October 2007 by Jagjaguwar records.
