In June, I lamented about DC losing treasured DIY Space Subterranean A, which was known for pioneering events that covered a lot of underground indie rock and experimental electronic. Thankfully DC quickly bounced back with the opening (and resurrection, in some cases) of a couple fresh spaces scattered throughout our various neighborhoods.
One of the new kids on the block is The Dougout. Located in the few lone areas where condominiums do not seem to be taking over, this Northeast house venue hosted its inaugural show back in May with popular Ohioan rockers Signals Midwest. Their second endeavor this Friday celebrates local tape distributor DZ Tapes latest release. Friday’s show promises a distinctly altered vibe (one might even say aural) and the line-up seems to signal that the powers-to-be behind The Dougout know something about curating a noteworthy showcase.
The roster consists of the newest addition to the DZ Tapes family, Brooklyn/Chapel Hill based electro-blues It Is Rain in My Face. Performing alongside them is Baltimore’s bedroom pop Romantic States and electro-pop Pressed And out of Brooklyn. The event will additionally include a DJ set by DZ Tapes creator himself Brett Isaacoff and the chance for DC to further welcome a much-needed addition to the scene.
It is Rain In My Face Release Show begins at 9pm on Friday the 17th at The Dougout. Donations are strongly encouraged.
