Carriers – “Without You”

Cincinatti group drops grandiose, Springsteen-esque jam

As we take stock of the past couple of months in lockdown, maintaining connections from a distance continues to be the new normal for musicians. Earlier this year, more or less to that day-ish where the US really canceled everything, we shared the video for Cincy-based group Carriers’ “Another Guy,” a stand-out from their debut full-length, Now Is The Time For Loving Me, Yourself & Everyone Else.

For Carriers’ figurehead, Curt Kiser, social distancing led to a new confidence as he details with the arrival of his new single, “Without You.”

“It’s the first time I’ve had the confidence to release a home recording. I wanted to keep it simple, fast and raw while letting the synth be the driving force. I used a Yamaha CS1x that I found last year at a local pawn shop and an old 60’s Goya that was handed down to me,” Kiser shared.

“I usually pass my work through a few trusted hands to make something sound the best that it can, but it’s cool trusting more of my own process while fully realizing this single in a more stripped-down setting.”

The sweeping, Springsteen-core lifted to grandiose effect on Carriers’ debut is given a homespun charm on “Without You,” as Kiser reaches out from the other side of stream.
