Sleepless in Seattle with love—check out Gunior Gunior’s Morrissey & Marr obsessed lover’s rock jam “Smiths Comes On” that tackles all those mixtape moments when your favorite group is cued up on the comp. Founded as an oddity offshoot from Snuff Redux’s own Skyler Ford & his roomie Garrett; the duo are committed to making the smoothest & silkiest productions in the greater northwest regions. Complete with various classic Mozzer quips, Gunior Gunior keeps the game grooving like their self-proclamations as “rap game Elvis Presley” that deals in some after hours feels & moods.

“Smiths Comes On” is that tongue firmly planted in cheek track that celebrates all the celebratory feels when that extra special track from The Smiths drops from the playlist. Questions of “how soon is now” and other song titles are blended into a plush & romantic outing that is dolled up & treated with all the electronic accouterments. Skyler & Garrett bare their hearts & souls amid a wavy mix of synths & slowly bubbling percussion that will get you into that upper altitude head space frame of mind & feeling. This is that track for the after, after, after party when only two people remain up in the penthouse while sensuous words & gestures are expressed in private.

Skyler from Gunior Gunior shared the following anecdote about the behind-the-scenes inspirations for “Smiths Comes On”:

On a trip to Las Vegas this summer we sat by the pool in the sun. When we came back to Seattle we watched Muholland Drive by David Lynch and started working on new music. Self reference, the dream state, and the adventure of translating our thoughts into the genre of popular music is never ending. Our connection to Pop is ingrained in our bloodline, from Britney to Taylor, from Usher to Travis. “Smiths Comes On” is a brief moment under the sun of Gunior, where a simple evening with a special person is suddenly the catalyst for a deep connection, albeit disjointed, but still honest. Our translation to experiences both lived and dreamt helps bolster the memory of why we say the things we do.
