A$AP Theophilus & A$AP Rocky are big spenders

Watch The Throne set the bar at a record height with an album chock full of baller proclamations that were not beyond the realms of possibility for two or rap's most successful performers. If we were to call in to question if Jay-Z has ever actually planked on a million, there's a good chance he could tweet an instagram photo in Toaster hue proving just how maxed out his swagger truly is. It would be a bad case of “fucking around and getting embarrassed”. That said, I'm not liking Theophilus London's chances of tweeting a photo of a kangaroo in a leather jacket, which is the dilemma on his collaborative track with A$AP Rocky, “Big Spender”.

Dame Grease flipped the Hellen Gallagher version of the “Big Spender” sample in '07 for a Jay-Z and Freeway track called “Roc-A-Fella Billionaires”. That already looms over Theo and Rocky's track. DJ Carnage flips a different version and it's got plenty of gusto, setting the big lights stage for A$AP Rocky and Theophilus London. It's a fine cut with plenty of quality bars and wild proclamations, that include dissing continental breakfasts, but it just feels flat or premature. A$AP and Theo are not quite at the comparable level to be eyeing the throne, but it's not stopping them from aiming high. International flights and recording in Australia are just the beginning. It's going to take a song recorded in a studio on the same anti-gravity plane Sir Richard Branson flies in the Virgin Mobile commercial to claim the throne. It's going to also take an official knighthood of “Sir” from the Queen.
