FAY, “What's the Use”

Post Author:

This rhythmic project, with it's tropical loop beats and constructed from various pieces of Fay Davis-Jeffers' voice, will earn lazy comparison to the work of tUnE-yArDs, but it's more of a stopping-starting affair. “What's the Use” leads us on at first, with an underscoring of hand drums below a midi pad repetition of vocal tones. It sounds like the former Pit Er Pat member is pressing the pads at first almost as a child would, repeating the sample without letting us hear the whole thing. But the abbreviated moan IS the whole sample, and as the song slowly builds to a climax, the moans rise in sexual and rhythmic intensity. FAY's first record DIN, is out June 12 on Time No Place.
