Bad Weather California, “Keep It Together”

There was a song on Bad Weather California's 2009 full-length, Young Punks, called “Let's Get High” that I listened to, according to my iTunes play count, 123 times. I've always had a soft spot for the Denver rambling men, whose sound is reminiscent of road trips, drive-in movies, Americana, and dignified, intelligent alt-punk. It's got that country swirl without the annoying twang, but it beats on mildly and with nuanced sophistication.

With Bad Weather California's Fire Talk debut, they'll be releasing a four-song cassette and digital output that has the track “Keep It Together” featured below. It exemplifies exactly what I initially loved about Bad Weather California. They're polite and undistorted but with a layer of history beneath them that feels rooted in road-heavy tunes from years yonder. The highlight of this song is the vocal yipping and hollow-bodied guitar sound that will fit perfectly on a cassette release. You can preorder that tape through Fire Talk here before it releases on August 14. Catch the band at the dates below, floating down the American open road.
