Let's talk about the Deftones

I can sit here and type up a bunch of bullshit about god knows how many weird, obscure, underground bands… OR, I could just tell you about the Deftones. CUZ… Fuck it.

When I was, like, 14 or 15 or something, I discovered Adrenaline and I was hooked. These dudes provided a soundtrack for many of my junior high and high school experiences, along with the likes of Portishead, The Cure, and Mogwai.

So, of course, every time they drop a new album, I'm quick to check it out. Their newest one, Diamond Eyes, which dropped last year, is good. To me, of course, it doesn't top White Pony or Around The Fur, which sit high on a shelf in my music library mind, as big time favorites. The track “You've Seen The Butcher,” however is easily one of the best songs they've ever recorded, in my humble opinion. When I heard it, I was like, “Holy shit.” It's on some weird Tool & Meshuggah shit, but with the Deftones' trademarked seductive swirl. I caught the video, and was further blown away.

If I'd seen this when I was 15 years old, I would've came in my pants and died. This reminds me why I worshiped the ground this band walked on back then. Fucking awesome.
