L.A. shoegazers drop another turbulent, towering stunner
Los Angeles shoegazers Drowsy are ascending into one of the best up-and-coming bands in the heavy noise-rock sphere with their effortless blend of lo-fi, slowcore, post-rock, grunge, and alt-metal. Earlier this year they dropped the towering masterpiece “Olivine,” which they’re now following up with a similarly turbulent and stratospheric stunner “Thurifer.”
The track opens on raw, slowly-unfurling guitar chords, which simmer pensively along with understated percussion before blasting off into a bombastic noise crescendo. From there, the song runs the entire mood gamut: dark, meditative, serene, and explosive. “Thurifer” is another classic Drowsy track that ebbs and flows in captivating ways, oscillating between soothingly ambient and harshly dissonant from one second to the next. It’s a perfect track to lose yourself in while stuck in quarantine limbo. Give it a spin below.
