The spirit of Jaylib lives on in Madlib's collaboration with Freddie Gibbs and Karriem Riggins on “City”. With Riggins hailing from Detroit, he brings that signature Detroit flow landing somewhere between Royce Da 5'9″ and Baatin of Slum Village. While, Gibbs is back home in his Cutlass, just a couple hundred miles down I-94 and a few tolls along the Turnpike, in Gary, IN.
Gary has never had much and Detroit just claimed bankruptcy, lending relevancy to Riggins' rhymes of designs to keep us poor and Gibbs claiming the only good meal he eats tends to come in November. “City” is part of Adult Swim's Summer Single Series and acts a healthy reminder that we're still owed the Piñata full length soon, which will feature guest appearances by Raekwon, Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown, Domo Genesis, Joey Bada$$, Ab-Soul, BJ The Chicago Kid, Meech of Flatbush Zombies, Casey Veggies, Mac Miller, Polyester the Saint, and G-Wiz.
