Here's something you don't hear everyday, an El-P production that left the paincave. The beat traveled to the Midwest, Oklahoma to be exact, and landed in the headphones of Jabee. Featuring Carlitta Durand on the chorus, “Stephanie” is our introduction to Jabee who possibly linked up with El-P while opening a few Midwest slots on the Into The Wild Tour.
Jabee has a voice reminiscent of several Rawkus era rappers, intersecting somewhere in the ven diagram of Mr. Complex, Medina Green, and Shabaam Sahdeeq, but with a hint of Oklahoma drawl. His ascent is not as thick as Stik Figa though. Jabee is in attack mode on “Stephanie”, and while it's never quiet certain what the average white girl name has to do with the track, it is crystal clear Jabee has bars. Too short for hoop dreams, Jabee lays out how he found rap with, “wanted to be like my pops with a box of Newports / he used to bump Too Short in his Cadillac / now they call me Too Short with some swag to match.”
“Stephanie” will be released on 7″ in October.
