JD Samson & MEN, “Deconstruct Me” (DJ Nita Remix)

The opening atmosphere of JD Samson & MEN's “Deconstruct Me” single could be described as—and I hate myself a little for suggesting this—post-808s & Heartbreaks. JD heavily auto-tunes her vocals over spacious ambient ripples, but unlike Mr. West, she's not self-absorbed, self-serving on “Deconstruct Me”. The track is a rally cry to recontexualize feminine sexuality, noting there's no turning back in rewriting the dialogue of desire. The chorus allows the listener to dance his or her self clean, but only in brief spurts, which brings us to the DJ Nita remix.

With a pulsating deep house beat, the DJ Nita remix to “Deconstruct Me” is pure sweat to get all the toxins purged of one's system. It's easy to imagine JD Samson incorporating DJ Nita's version into a deejay set of her own, orchestrating the sort of universally conscious dance floor associated with the former Le Tigre performer. It's got a vintage DFA quality to it, and while it times out at six minutes, DJ Nita crafted a momentum builder to revitalize the dance floor into its second or third wind.
