Jerry Paper, “Halfway Zen”

Bryn Lovitt

Jerry Paper Carousel

Lucas Nathan’s oddball persona Jerry Paper has become a staple in the NYC underground, delivering solid synth-driven art-pop since his debut album Feels Emotion.”Halfway Zen” is the first song to drop from his follow-up album, Carousel. The end of the single features a warped and witness-protected indictment a la Wizard of Oz in which he claims, “I am the man behind the music.” Indeed, it makes sense that Jerry Paper’s album release party for Carousel falls on April Fool’s Day. Timing might also play a factor, as the record is out March 31 on limited edition pink vinyl from Captured Tracks offshoot Bayonet Records. You can stream “Halfway Zen” below.
