Scraps, “Electric Ocean”

Lo-fi electronic darling Scraps may have spent years cultivating a following in her home country of Australia, but that doesn't mean that's where she'll stay. Like any bedroom performer with enough whimsy and desire, Scraps' music speaks to a vast audience, touching on the trials and pains of love while also moving through washes of debilitating electropop, in all its forms. A trailer for her debut album is below, and “Electric Ocean” could not be a more apt name. Over waves of sound and crests of touchingly shy pleas—”What's your favorite color?” and “What's your favorite number?”—Scraps' Laura Hill shows her dexterity for managing both presciously small pop songs while allowing them to grow almost larger than life with feeling.

Scraps' debut, Electric Ocean, will release through Fire Records on March 11.
