With the likes of musicians a la Courtney Barnett, Palehound, and Hop Along swirling around these days, we can say with some certainty that there is a proliferation of inventive lyricism and powerful rock-inspired female voices clouding our vision. But before we go writing a lengthy trendpiece on the subject, take a listen to a new contribution from grungy New York-based band Slothrust, “Crockpot.” While Barnett was winning us over with her anthems to panic attacks, Slothrust tackles companionship and all the challenges that come with being around someone nonstop. Do your stomachs start to hurt in tandem? When do you end and they begin? Paired with powerful heft similar to Nirvana but winsomely matched with Weezer's anxiety, “Crockpot” is for nostalgists as well as intellectuals.
Stream “Crockpot” below, and then head to Ba Da Bing Records for the debut, Of Course You Do, out on February 18.
