Soft on the edges, Woolen Men's Quick Trips EP feels as though it was constructed with a fondness for British pop punk of the late 70s. Is it the climatic similiarities of the UK and the Pacific Northwest? Woolen Men's EP just sounds like a good excuse to stay inside on a rainy day.
Opener “Real FX” strikes up immediate recollections of The Buzzcocks and Elvis Costello, particularly in those vocal inflections, while “Emily” is loaded with riff-bliss on the bridge that encourages repeated spins. Quick Trips operates on the three Cs of pop-punk: compact, catchy, and capricious. Each track is distinct in indentity, giving the EP a special energy that suggests Woolen Men have diverse taste and the songwriting chops to pursue it without an inkling of collision.
Woolen Men's Quick Trips EP is out February 4 on Loglady Records.
