Basilica Soundscape Returns to Hudson

Post Author:

This September 11-13, Basilica Soundscape is defending its title as your favorite festival that doesn’t and probably shouldn’t take place anywhere that festivals normally happen. Basilica trades in massive waterfronts, expansive farms, and remote corners of the desert for a quaint 19th century factory in Hudson, New York that has been renovated to facilitate art and performance.

The festival is the brainchild of Brandon Stosuy (Managing Editor at Pitchfork), Melissa Auf der Mar (best known for playing in Hole and the Smashing Pumpkins), filmmaker Tony Stone, and Brian DeRan of Leg Up Management. With such a qualified list of curators, it comes as no surprise that last year, Basilica touted not just a gratifying and sonically diverse lineup, but one that managed to embody the space and location on an emotional level. The lineup moved carefully between the likes of Michael Chapman, Deafheaven, Emily Reo, and perhaps most notably, Swans.

This year is no different. The lineup as it stands right now is set to feature Perfume Genius, HEALTH, Actress, Viet Cong, Weyes Blood, Wolf Eyes, Haxan Cloak, Jenny Hval, Blanck Mass, Circuit des Yeux, and Gourisankar and Indrajit Banarjee (If you’ve never heard of them prepare for infinite fields of tonal feels and quality facial expressions).

The details surrounding food, visual art, various readings, and other things outside of the music will be available soon, but in the meantime let’s just revel in what appears to already be an amazing experience. Right now you can grab weekend passes for $60 and weekend camping passes for $115 here.
