Download: Nick Thorburn covers Why? side project

Jeremy Krinsley

Nick Thorburn fronted The Unicorns and fronts Islands. This is his cover. The original Reaching Quiet track (streaming on their MySpace page) is a rap-sing attack with massive, movie score-worthy bass lines. Nick Thorburn's is a nearly half-time piano ballad. They both make good fodder for that city depressive deep inside all of us, but it's still too early in the afternoon for us to go the way of two white dudes muttering quickly in our ears. That being said, Reaching Quiet's word play is as fun as Thorburn's (“You've gone skinny / all alone in New York City”). Maybe that's why he chose this track to cover for Why?'s Tomlab release of The Hollows EP in Europe.
