XXL broke the news yesterday that Fat Beats records is closing its doors on its two remaining locations in New York City and Los Angeles after 16 years of business.

There's only one viable reason for Fat Beats closing its doors. It all trails back to the The Wrecking Crew hiding vinyl in newspapers back in the 90s, gaffling the store out of business 20 years later – yes, it's a Juice reference ladies and gentlemen and yes, we're aware the store in Manhattan opened in '94. It's not a final good bye though. The stores are closing, but Fat Beats wholesale distribution and online store shall remain in operation. Going out with a bang instead of a whimper, Fat Beats will be throwing several, yet-to-be announced, tribute parties in both remaining locations as well as liquidation sales.

The New York store closes September 4, while the Los Angeles store closes September 18. The tribute parties are scheduled for the final week of operational hours, stay glued to Fat Beats for the info.
