Against Me! frontwoman Laura Jane Grace has been an integral voice for members of the transgender community since she publicly came out as a transgender woman in 2012. Now, she’ll be expanding her outreach as the host of a new AOL On Originals web series, True Trans. The series will include 10 documentary-style episodes that explore the experiences of transgender people.

True Trans opens a window into a community that needs representation from new voices and different backgrounds. In the series, Grace attempts to shed light on the complexity and diversity of the experiences of trans* people while reminding viewers that trans* experiences and identities involve so much more than gender. In the trailer she says, “You can classify someone as trans, genderqueer, whatever you want, but when it comes down to it, we’re just people.”

The series had initially been titled So Much More, but the name was changed for copyright reasons. The new title comes from the Against Me! song “True Trans Soul Rebel”, which discusses the inner life of a transgender woman and the battles she faces.

True Trans will debut on October 10, just before National Coming Out Day. You can watch the trailer and listen to “True Trans Soul Rebel” below.
