Pitchfork Festival 2024 Day 2

Post Author: Rachel Kerrigan

Jamie XX, Carly Rae Jepsen, Jessie Ware, Wednesday & more kept the energy going on Saturday at Union Park

It was another glorious day at Chicago’s Union Park as Saturday of Pitchfork Festival hit its stride thanks to a number of intense and amazing performances from some of the hottest names in the indie music sphere.

Kicking off the day’s proceedings was NYC band Hotline TNT, who cranked out their incendiary shoegaze garage punk to a raucous crowd eager to mosh and sing along. A lo-fi rock marathon took hold over the course of the next couple hours thanks to Pittsburgh’s Feeble Little Horse, whose off-kilter noise pop and indie rock kept the staticky glory intact. The spirit of shoegaze culminated with the ascendant folk-tinged band Wednesday, who backed up their mountain of hype with a typically brilliant performance on the Green Stage.

As the day wore on, the energy did not let up. Classic old school hip hop group De La Soul have aged like fine wine, with MC Posdnuos and DJ Maseo executing a tight set that also saw them paying tribute to late member Trugoy The Dove. Later, reunited post-hardcore legends Unwound held it down with a thrilling set that proved they haven’t lost a step – even after a 20-year hiatus.

But Saturday night at Pitchfork 2024 turned into a dance party as English singer Jessie Ware – flanked by backup dancers – delivered a fresh and soulful set of pop music that culled from sophistipop, disco, soul, and other nostalgic stylings. Later on, one of the most underrated queens of pop, Carly Rae Jepsen, returned to the Pitchfork stage for a victory lap of a set full of soaring synth melodies, infectious dance beats, and her signature spellbinding charisma. Bringing the night to a victorious close was English DJ-producer and The XX member Jamie XX, whose diverse array of IDM and breakbeat galvanized the crowd during his headlining set.
