As NME notes, Speedy Ortiz driving force and burgeoning cover song juggernaut, Sadie Dupuis, leaves her mark in the best of ways on a growing number of reinterpretations she's been releasing, quickly but without the Ortiz.

We told you about that Josie & the Pussycats track and before that was the distortion tweaked version of Ciara's “Ride”. She's at it again, this time putting the Dupuis-stamp on “The Last Page”, a track from Metric frontwoman Emily Haines' viscerally haunting, piano driven “solo” 2006 LP Knives Don't Have Your Back.

Sadie's version is no less visceral but the angular guitar and chunky distortion make the cutting melody sting more than ache. Of all the tracks from Emily Haines and The Soft Skeleton, “The Last Page” lends itself best to Sadie's guitar style. Haines' piano bounces in a synopated dissonance that almost falls off kilter before cycling through into a dark driving forgone yearning you kind of get drawn inside of.

For her version, Dupuis tapped her cousin, Two Inch Astronaut's Sam Rosenberg to add vocal depth that serves to further ground the wobbly distortion wafting behind the dark guitar sound on a distinctly grunge-esque plane. This like totally 90s rendering is a thoroughly intriguing and enjouable counter to the floating tug between emotional cascade and demure restraint that characterizes Haines' poetic solo songwriting style.
