Slothrust, “No Eye Candy”

Video by Chessy Normile

Slothrust's third single, "No Eye Candy," off their new album Of Course You Do (Ba Da Bing Records), now has the video counterpart it heartily deserves; created and performed by Chessy Normile. Vocalist/Guitarist Leah Wellbaum penned the song when she was 18, taking inspiration from her complicated feelings toward Britney Spears' youth-ending python dance at the 2001 VMAs. The song's protagonist is reacting to the dark side of pop celebrity culture, as it's known so often to spawn high-net-worth tween sociopaths. Normile uses claymation and stop-motion photography brilliantly to render these thematic horrors visually, while also cultivating humor and charm in the scenario.
