NOMO tour, make “fusion” less quease-inducing word

Post Author:

NOMO has featured over 60 performers on its recordings, but it's the baby of Elliot Bergman, a jazz studies graduate of the University of Michigan. Recalling a whole lot of Afro Beat in its electro-infused sometimes free-jazz infested big band attack, the collective is doing a lot of good work killing memories of when fusion meant elevator-inspired clavatar being and polyrythmic “rock” drums and “funk” bass. Ah Jaco, may ye rest in peace.

NOMO signed to the eclectic jazz/hip hop/soul/electro California label Ubiquity for New Tones, their 2006 sophomore effort. The band will be playing the Pitchfork Festival, among other dates this July and June and have a release titled Better Than That due out on Kindred Spirits sometime this year.
