Young, indie newcomers Clubhouse are nailing every opportunity they come across.
Initial Thoughts
“Blame the Weather” at just around 0:40 seconds into the song puts everything into perspective. It’s fairly easy to see how well Clubhouse has caught on, with infectious, top-chart pop hooks intertwined with funky guitar rifts and a healthy dose of synth.
Background
How well have Clubhouse caught on? Well, they’ve performed alongside Matt & Kim, Ra Ra Riot, and Passion Pit, to cherrypick a few from an outstanding list. Also boasting 500,000+ plays on Spotify, it is becoming increasingly difficult to deny they’re great entertainers, even if you aren’t a fan of their sound.
Verdict
While not an outspoken fan of their sound, I find “Blame the Weather” deserves recognition for its cohesion. I could hear this playing on the radio, in concerts, on any Spotify playlist (like Canción del Día) and for that, I respect how Clubhouse have niched themselves. Their funky guitar is just killer, though. Soft 3/5.
