Chase McBride, "On The Other Side"

Post Author: Michael Brummett

Background

Chase McBride filmed “On The Other Side” in Bodega Bay, California, where his new album Cold Water was recorded in its entirety. McBride enlisted the help of a French Cassettes with the production, and a backing band to catch the songs in their live, raw form.
As for influences on Cold Water, Chase has some brief thoughts:

“I was listening to a lot of Van Morrison’s early album Astral Weeks. The droning, acoustic backdrops that make up the foundation of that record drew me in, as did the spare arrangements and simple recording techniques.” -Chase McBride, interview with Earmilk

Thoughts

The result of McBride’s efforts? An eloquence and authenticity that gently fills a room. It sounds too harsh to pool “On The Other Side” within the ‘ear worm’ category — but that is the consequence of the richness and calming of his vocals against a beachfront. Perhaps ‘pleasantly contagious‘ is a better phrase.
