Beth Gibbons is socially inept. This leaves Geoff Barrow no choice but to outsource his gift for cutting edge production and we couldn't be any happier with the result.
Beak> was his first departure and it was rad as shit. But Geoff loves him some female vocals, so he was aching to get a new dame in his life to sing over his kraut-dub production – and yes, I just coined “kraut-dub”. Luckily he met political journalist Anika. In typical Beak> fashion the group cut a nine-song record, no over-dubs, in 12 days.
Stones Throw is handling the US release and the label leaked “Yang Yang” today. It's euro-trashy, like some eight foot viking-type broad testing the waters of hip hop. It's politically transparent, but not in some annoying M.I.A. sorta way. Simply put, it's fuggin' awesome.
Anika's self-titled record is out December 7 on Stones Throw.
