Jef Maarawi

Insights on the solo work of Jef Maarawai; photographed by Danilo Arenas.

Jef Maarawi announced the upcoming album Comfort Food available December 11 from Inner Ear & delivered a look at the video for “Forest”. Known for work with Egg Hell on the album Once Part of a Whole Ship, Maarawi presents the Danilo Arenas Ireijo visuals that were filmed out in Salto de Pirapora, SP, Brazil where Jef’s introspective & intimate narratives are brought to a natural source of inspiration & reflective thought. From strolls through groves of trees, passing through trickling brooks, embracing stone strong boulders to being buried in leaves; Jef takes in the inherint wisdom of local tribal elders to the songs & poetry spoken through the sources of surrounding natural elements that tell of secret & cryptic histories that date to the dawning of possibly time itself. In Jef Maarawi’s own words on the song & visual for “Forest”:

The video is shot improvisationally over two days, by my good friend and excellent photographer Danilo Arenas. After a long conversation about my song, we decided to make the video in his country house in Salto de Pirapora, Brazil, where he spent a part of his childhood. We felt that the atmosphere of the song should be more direct and familiar. The concept is based on the song, in an effort to feel comfortable in a forest.
